Singles at Gowran Park
Last weekend saw an 18 hole singles competition for members. A large entry participated over the 2 days. Captain Joe Farrell took the leading spot with a great score of 41 pts. Michael Dick took the runner-up spot with the same score but losing out on the countback, while last years’ captain Sean Kiely took third spot 1 point further back.
On the Inter-club front the Jimmy Bruen panel are busy preparing for their qualifying round to be held in New Ross Golf Club on Saturday 16th June. The Barton Shield team had a good outing in Coollattin on Saturday last, the team consisted of our low handicappers, Paudie Lannon, Thos Farrell, Niall Kiely and Eoin Jordan – while playing extremely well, unfortunately, they lost out on a qualifying spot by 2 strokes on the day.
Weather Takes Its Toll
Last Thursday’s Open Singles along with a fundraiser for Thomastown Soccer Club which was scheduled for the weekend fell victim to the inclement weather. Our weather gauge gave us a reading of close to 75 mm of rain over a 24 hour period. The course returned to play late on Friday evening and the course staff worked hard to get the course back in top shape for the weekend competition. While the Weekly Open Singles resumes this week, the Thomastown Soccer Classic has been re-scheduled for 20th & 21st July.
Open 3 Person Team Event
Next Sunday sees an 18 hole 3 Person Rumble take place in Gowran Park. There is a timesheet in place which is already busy – competitors can book a tee time by contacting the office on 056 7726699. Our Open Singles continues this week on Thursday while a date for your diary is another Open 3 Person Team Event to take place on Sunday 1st July.
Pounds for Rounds
Gowran Park are delighted to announce a special rate for Seniors on Tuesdays. While there is an Open Seniors competition held on the first Tuesday of every month there is now a special green fee of £10 for green fees on the alternate Tuesdays. Bring along your old Irish money and play Pounds for Rounds. This special rate is available to Seniors on Tuesday only where Gowran Park will be delighted to take your old Irish money in exchange for golf.

Juniors
The Summer Coaching Programme will begin on Wednesday 13th June. Junior/Juvenile members interested in participating are asked to contact Dominic for coaching groups and times. Junior summer competitions will commence on Monday 11th June, 18 holes meet at 10 a.m. for 10.30a.m. and 9 holes meet at 12 p.m. for 12.30 p.m. Format will be decided on the day.
Junior Matchplay draw is posted on the Junior Notice Board, Preliminary round to be played by Saturday 17th June.
‘Girls N Golf’ Programme, Saturday 16th has been postponed, next session on Saturday 23rd June, with Groups A at 4pm & Group B at 5pm.
