GOLFING FOR HOLIDAYS

 

The timesheet is also open for our Bank Holiday Open Singles Weekend, running from Friday 31st to Monday 3rd June inclusive.  First prize for the leading golfer will be a fabulous break away for two to the Atlantic Coast Hotel, Westport, Co. Mayo.

 

Last Thursday’s Open Singles attracted a large entry and resulted in visiting golfer Leo Dunne (12), Abbeyleix GC taking leading honours with 38 points.  Local member Paddy McGuinness took the runner-up spot with 35 points.

 

This week’s competition will be held on Friday 24th May allowing that there is a horse sale event at the track on Thursday afternoon.  Timesheet available on 056 7726699 or online.

 

Men’s Monthly Medal – Sunday 19th May 2013The monthly medal for May took place last weekend.  Playing off the blue tees, James Doyle (17) took the leading spot with a nett 68.  Six handicappers Eoin Jordan and Larry Cleere took 2nd and 3rd place respectively with Eoin scoring a 69 nett and Larry 1 shot further back on 70.  This weekend members are playing a members fourball in aid of the National Council for the Blind – time sheet available online.

The Boyne Trophy Team managed by Joan Murphy had a very narrow but brilliant win over  Kilkenny in the first round  of the Boyne Trophy with 3 matches at home and 2 in Kilkenny. In Kilkenny the first pairing of Nora Barron and Kathleen Whitehead after a great effort were beaten on 16th. 2nd pairing of Joan Murphy and Catherine o Driscoll came from 2 down to win on 18th. At home Kate Hennessey and Helen Dunne were unlucky to be beaten on 18th. Linda Donohoe and Ger Hickey had a great win on the 18th. With two all Ann Mullins and Maura Coe having brought the match back to flat on 17th and halved 18th went on to win on 21st hole.  Well done to all the team and subs. Peggy Canning and Gay Latchford.

 

Congratulations to the Miele Team who had a great win against Faithlegg and are now through to the 2nd round. The team, managed by Deirdre McCabe & Eileen Walsh were Judy Dick & Deirdre McCabe, Ger Hickey & Ann Farrell, Kate Hennessy & Helen Dunne and  Sinead Kearney & Nora Barron. Many thanks to Kerri Bolger for helping out and all the supporters.
