Captain’s Update

Dear Member

It is hard to believe that we are almost a third of the way into the golfing year of 2024.

Unfortunately so far, the weather has probably been the real winner, with rainfall way above average limits, but a huge thanks to Joe Scriven and his course staff for all their effort with the upkeep of the course and in keeping the course open to members as much as possible.

It is important to remember that the protection of the Golf course and keeping it open for member’s in these challenging times, is a fine balancing act but it will pay dividends to all of us for the rest of the year. We as members can play our part also, so please repair all pitch marks and any others you may find, respect access to all roped off areas and replace all divots, doing this now will be of great benefit going forward. Hopefully our course can match standards set during last golfing season!

A huge thank you to all who participated in our recent Captain’s Drive In and to the committee who organised the event which helped make it such a huge success.

The Inter Club season will kick off in April, team sheets are now available on the notice boards in the each Locker room for member’s to register their interest in joining any of the team panels. I urge as many as possible to put your name forward, it would be great to see strong turnout for the Club teams and some new names joining our experienced team members.

Looking forward to a great golfing season and working closely with Lady Captain Lucy to deliver a fun and entertaining year. Warm welcome to all new members who have joined us for 2024 and a welcome back to our returning members.

Finally a big thanks to both the Men’s and Ladies committee for all their help and support.

Thank You Sincerely

Seamas Fitzpatrick

Dear Member,

I’d firstly like to acknowledge our outgoing Lady Captain Charlotte and outgoing President Eileen for a fantastic 2023. Both represented us so well throughout the year and oversaw huge club success.

As I take up the reigns, I’d like to mention our wonderful committee for the coming year;

Lady Vice Captain – Kathleen Butler
Ladies Honorary Secretary – Marie Murphy
Ladies Communications Officer – Keelin Walsh
Competition Secretary – Sinead Kearney
Handicap Secretary – Judy Dick
Ex Officio – Charlotte Boote
Lottie Boote – Committee Member
Ann Mullins – Committee Member
Eileen Tobin – Committee Member
Catherine Somers – Committee Member

I really look forward to working alongside all these ladies who are a huge asset to the committee and to me and know that their hard work and commitment will be evident throughout the year.

As you can see, the notice board and competitions board in the Ladies locker room is starting to fill up with competition information and other inclusive and informative items. There are also improvements being looked at with regard to the Ladies locker room and a review of same is currently underway. The committee are working away in the background on items of interest and general improvements which will hopefully benefit all the ladies in some shape or form. There are a number of changes coming into the World Handicap System from April the 1st the details of which have been issued by email, further information surrounding same will be available to view in the Ladies locker room shortly.

I’d like to thank all those who attended the Captains Drive In and for all the good wishes. It was a very enjoyable and social day and it was great to see so many members out on the course and in the clubhouse afterwards. Id like to wish Captain Seamas, President Gerry and Junior Captain Conor all the best for the year ahead.

Captain Seamas and I met with Joe Bedford, Eddie Scally and Joe Scriven recently for a course update. Great plans for the year ahead with regard to improvements both on and off the course.

Regarding on course golf, it is hoped that the weather improves on what has been a wet start to the year and gives us a chance to get the golfing season under way. With the clocks changing and longer evenings ahead the 9 hole mixed social singles competition will be starting again towards the end of April (weather permitting). It will be on Wednesday evening and I would encourage all ladies to participate. I note the day clash with regard to the ladies competition day, however it’s an option for ladies who play weekends or those that miss their Wednesday morning or afternoon competition and would still like to get out.

I also look forward to the start of the Interclub competitions which will be upon us soon. A detailed description of each event category and eligible ladies are posted in the locker room along with the team manager(s).

It is hoped that we have an interest from different ladies this year aswell as those that partook previously. Please use the signup sheets in the locker room to express your interest in joining a panel. Thank you to all those ladies who put their names forward to be managers, we could not enter any of these events without this dedication and commitment.

Looking forward to seeing you on the course soon.

Happy Golfing.
Lucy Condon
