Captain’s Drive-In:
The Captain’s Drive-In for 2010 took place in perfect conditions on Sunday last. Captain Niall Kiely addressed the large turn out on the day and spoke about how honoured he felt to be the captain of Gowran Park Golf Club. He was particularly glad to welcome the new members as they play a big part in the strengthening of the club. Such numbers using the excellent facilities augurs well for Gowran Park.
Niall thanked all the bar staff, Bernie & Pat in the kitchen and Catherine in the shop for helping to make the day a success. He expressed his sincere thanks to all the well wishers and said he was looking forward to a year of further expansion.
The Lady Captain, Sinéad Kearney, spoke about what an honour it was to be selected as captain and how delighted she was at the large turn out on the day. Mattie Byrne Snr. was also greatly honoured to be the Club President and spoke about how he is looking forward to working together for the year.
Those present on the day were drawn into teams for a fun scramble competition over 18 holes.
1st: Kate Hennesy, Tommy Bolger, Colm Lawlor, PJ Aylward – Score 55.6
2nd: Lee Graham, Joe Lannon, Breda Bolger – Score 60.6 (back nine)
3rd: Tony Dunne, Michael Brennan, Eileen Walsh – Score 60.6
Next weekend there will be an 18 hole stableford competition for the men.
