Senior / Junior Scratch Cups
Low handicappers are invited to play on Sunday next 3rd September with Senior and Junior Scratch Cups scheduled to take place from early morning. The Senior competition is open to handicappers from 0 – 4 while the junior competition is open to golfers with handicaps of 5 – 9 . There is a time sheet in place for Sunday which can be accessed by contacting the office on 056 7726699.
Open Week 2012
Open Week concluded recently with an 18 hole 4 Person Team Event. The competition, held over 2 days, attracted a large entry and resulted in a win for visiting golfers from Callan and Slievenamon. Barry Dunne (17), Colm Dunne (7), David Byrne (19) and Jimmy Hillman (15) scored 100 points to take victory by 2 points from Colm Breheny, Delgany (11) along with Carlow members Richard Breheny (12), James Dempsey (10) and Pat Murphy (22). Local members Sean Kiely (9), Joe Lannon (13), Niamh Bolger (26) and Gerry McIntyre (15) took the third spot with 96 points.
Thursday 16th August saw an 18 Hole Singles competition take place. Rathdowney members took the first two spots on the day. Eamon Maher (12) took the major honours with 37 points while Mark Nolan (18) took the runner-up spot with 36 points. 3rd place went to Abbeyleix member Oisin Dunne (18) with 35 points.
A novelty 9 hole competition took place on Tuesday 14th August. Members and visitors were asked to choose their favourite 2 clubs along with their putter and play the 9 hole competition. Sean Kiely took the leading spot with a good score of 19 points. Left hander Johnny Greene took the runner-up spot with 17 points while Pat Staunton took the third spot with 16 points.
A Junior Singles competition also took place on the Tuesday with age catergories in place on the day for the competitors. In the over 15 age category Borris member Tom Attride took the leading spot from Jamie Dunne (Borris) and P.J. Dowling (Borris). In the under 15 age category local member James Bergin took 1st place from Harry Duggan (Kilkenny) 2nd and John Hession (Mount Juliet) 3rd. The winner of the girls section was Clare Higgins (Mount Juliet).
The ladies had pride of place on Monday 12th August. Lady Captain, Anne Mullins along with Nora Baron and Kathleen Whitehead took the honours in the 3 Person Team Event. Sally Kavanagh, Rachael Dick and Hilary Dick took the runner-up spot.
Presidents Prize
Our President, Eamon Kealy hosts his big day on Saturday next 1st September. There is a timesheet in place for Saturday and a draw for partners will be made this evening, Wednesday 29th August. Results of the draw will available online from Thursday morning – alternately members can also contact the office 056 7726699. After a competitive days golf there will be the presentation of prizes and dinner from 9 p.m. followed by music and dancing.
