We had 6 winners with 8 2’s this week. We actually had a 2 on the 15th, drive followed by a 6 iron into the hole by Fergal Doyle. Eagling par fours seems to be catching after Joe Conroy had a 2 on the 6th in the Wednesday nine hole.

The cash has been applied to your account lads.

NCBI HolmPatrick Cup Fourball

John Barcoe and James Doyle shot a great 44 points in the weekend’s fourball in aid of the NCBI. John and James now qualify for the county final in Callan, best of luck lads. The county final in Callan is Friday July the 3rd at 12 noon.

Eoin Jordan and Joe Lannon were second.

Philip Dreeling wins Nine Hole

The Golf Academy Golf Shop Nine Hole Series sponsored by Brendan McDermott was won on Wednesday night by Philip Dreeling with a nett 29. Playing off the green tees made for some great scores. Philip playing off 12 shot a gross 1 under to take first position. Ger Treacy and Liam Hutchinson with nett scores of 30.5 were second and third. We had a record turnout for the competition this week and with the improving weather and great prize of Srixon irons we expect numbers to stay high.

Inter Club Update

The Jimmy Carroll team are showing the young lads how to win team matches. A great victory over Borris in Carlow last Thursday moves Gowran into the last 16. This is an all lreland competition so it’s great to see the team doing so well. Our next opponent is the winner from the Killiney v Powerscourt clash.

The Jimmy Bruen team bowed out in Craddockstown over the weekend. A very competitive section where only the top 4 qualified meant Gowran needed to play some serious golf to qualify. On a course unfamiliar to most as its well outside the local region the team played well but failed to post the low scores required on the day. Three of the qualifying teams were from the Kildare area emphasising that local knowledge was key.

A huge thanks to the management and team for their preparation and participation, onwards and upwards lads.

Junior Interclub under 15’s

Our under 15’s were in action over the last week with a match against Kilkenny in Kilkenny and Castlecomer in Gowran. With such a young squad Gowran played some great golf but were unlucky in both matches, going down 4:1.

This was great experience for our boys. For most it was their first experience of interclub competition.
