Results Junior Competition 4th August; 1st Luke O Donnell 39 points, 2nd Connor Lynch 32 points, 3rd Billy O Sullivan 32 points. We have just three competitions left in the summer series as schools are due to restart end of August. We are hoping to continue Junior Competitions throughout the autumn and winter, weather and course availability permitting. We also hope to promote some more Juveniles to the Junior ranks in the next few weeks which will include some girls for the first time in three years and we are delighted to see the girls doing well and are really focused on developing the girls golf skills and numbers in the coming years. Sadly our Junior Convenor ,Lorcan Lynch, will be handing over the reins to a new Junior Convenor the end of 2020 as he starts his Captain's year from December 2020 but will remain involved at some level and will ensure the Junior golf skills development programs receive all the funding and support required from the management committees of the club. We also would like to thank the Parents who have been very supportive particularly when coaching sessions have to be altered at the last minute due to weather and also for volunteering at the coaching sessions. We will continue coaching sessions in five week cycles throughout the year subject to national health guidelines so if your Junior has missed out this time they can join at the next five cycle sessions which will start early Sept at a cost of €30 for five sessions. We also thank our resident coach, Dominic Bolger, for his outstanding work in supporting the Junior /Juvenile golf skills and the work of the Junior Committee especially Kate Hennessy, Pat Murphy and Eileen Tobin and the support of the management committee especially Jim Walsh and the Gowran Park Management especially Joe Scriven and Eddie Scally. Thank you to all. ...

Updates 5th August 2020. Following a number of questions from parents such as the pathway from Juvenile golf to Junior, where and how much to spend on golf clubs, club membership etc we decided to set out some information below;
1. Pathway for a Juvenile Golfer - A Juvenile golfer is based not on age but on ability level.Juveniles are generally new to golf or have been coaching for circa one to two years and aged between 7 to 12. Once a Juvenile regularly attends golf lessons, understands from the coaching team the golf etiquette on a golf course and reaches an ability level that the resident coach is satisfied with, they are signed off as a Junior and move to the Junior Golf program which results in them playing in Junior Golf competitions and playing social golf on the course once accompanied by an adult member of the club. We want all Juveniles to progress as quickly as they can to Junior level as they will get to play allot more golf on the course but this can only be achieved through regular coaching, practicing certain skills at home and becoming a member of the club.
2. Club Membership: Any questions relating to Junior club membership needs to be made to the golf office as the Junior committee only manage the Coaching and Junior competitions and the overall Junior/Juvenile Golf skill development programs.
3. Golf Clubs: For a Juvenile we recommend a starter set which includes four clubs and golf bag called the Ben Sayer range which are available for boys and girls aged 7 to 11 from O Dwyer's golf shop in the Hebron Ind Est for circa €95.
For Junior golfers we recommend for both boys and girls from aged 11 to 13 a Ladies set of clubs as the weight will suit them and can be purchased in shops or online second hand on Done Deal or ebay for circa €150. From 14 years onwards boys move to mens clubs and it becomes a personal choice at that stage. We hope this information helps and do please ask any member of the Junior committee any other questions we have not covered above.
