Junior Foursomes – Gowran V Abbeyleix played in Carlow
This very close match went down to the 18th hole of the last pairing and a win was secured with a great putt by Helen Dunne. The first pairing out Karen Haughney and Judy Dick won on the 16th while Ann Mullins and Catherine O’Driscoll lost on the 18th leaving the last pairing of Deirdre Mc Cabe and Helen Dunne to decide the outcome. After a very tight match they won on the 18th and so Gowran have gone through to the next round.
Minor Team – Gowran V Birr played in Abbeyleix
The minor team were defeated by Birr in Abbyleix on a showery afternoon. The minor team were in the second round after a great win over Castlecomer in Callan but they were beaten by Birr. The team was: Sally Kavanagh, Catherine O’Driscoll, Helen Dunne, Joan Murphy and Kathleen Whitehead. Well done to the ladies for their commitment and efforts and to manager Niamh Connolly for looking after the team.
The Miele – Gowran V Kilkenny (Preliminary Round)
Gowran were triumphant over Kilkenny in a preliminary round of The Miele competition. This competition is a fourball format where two teams play at home and two teams play away. The result is decided by number of holes won. At the end of all the matches both teams had 8 holes each and so the lowest handicapped pairing had to go down the 19th at the home venue which was Gowran. Veteran golfer Nora Barron was teamed with Sinead Kearney as the lowest pairing at home and after defeating their opponents on the 14th they went out again on the 19th and won the hole to give the win to Gowran who now proceed to the first round and play Faithlegg. The Miele team was at home: Nora Barron & Sinead Kearney, Kate Hennessy & Helen Dunne. In Kilkenny: Judy Dick & Deirdre Mc Cabe, Ann Farrell & Ger Hickey.
